Introduction
What Invy is, how it's organized, and where to go next.
What is Invy?
Invy is an inventory and asset tracking system built around a simple idea: everything you own lives in a folder tree, and every folder shows you exactly what’s inside it — right now, not as of your last spreadsheet update.
Instead of departments, spreadsheets, or sticky notes, you organize your stuff the way it actually sits in the real world: a warehouse folder holds rack folders, rack folders hold spot folders, and each folder shows the items and units placed there. You can name these tiers whatever fits your organization (see Locations & Folders).
How Invy is organized
Everything in Invy hangs off three simple ideas:
1. Folders (locations)
A nested tree of places — buildings, rooms, shelves, vehicles, job sites, whatever you need. Folders can be nested as deep as you like. Learn more →
2. Items & units
An item is a type of thing you track (e.g. “Dell U2723QE Monitor”). A unit is one physical instance of that item, placed in a folder. Add ten units of an item and Invy tracks all ten individually, each with its own QR code. Learn more →
3. Movement & lending
Units move between folders with a Move action, and can be lent out to a person with a Lend action — both are recorded permanently against that unit’s history. Moving assets → · Borrowing & lending →
What you can do with Invy
- See where everything is, instantly — browse the folder tree and see live counts, values, and status for every location.
- Track the full history of every unit — every move, every loan, every damage report is permanent and timestamped.
- Lend equipment to people — with due dates, an automatic confirmation email, and one place to see everything currently on loan.
- Report and resolve damage — flag a broken or lost unit; damage reports carry a priority level and are tracked against an SLA until resolved.
- Generate reports — inventory value, status breakdown, aging, and location distribution, exportable as PDF or CSV.
- Control who sees what — role-based permissions across Inventory, Movements, Borrowings, Maintenance, Reports, System Settings, and more.
